Ten year old Amber, founder of DJ SlimeyGloop, loved playing with slime from a little girl. It made her gift wishlist every birthday each trip to the airport involved going to a sweet store – not for sweets, but slime. When Amber was 8 years old she discovered she could make her own slime and after a year of experimenting with various glues and recipes – including many fails and successes – she has now mastered how to make all sorts of slime.
Amber often sketches ideas such as house plans, forts, imaginary fairy gardens and party invites. In July of 2017 her mom found a sketch of a Slime kit box cover and asked Amber what it was, Amber went on to explain that it was what the cover of her slime kit would look like and that she was thinking of making some kits to sell at the market. With a passion for slime and a good business idea Ambers’ mom had no option but to help Amber make this dream a reality.
For a few weeks Amber and her mom played with different recipes that would be both easy and cost effective. When asking Amber what the most difficult part of the process was she says “definitely measuring and making slime by a recipe – I’ve always gone by eye and look & feel, but with measuring you have to be precise because even changing an ingredient by 2 ml’s can effect the outcome. Amber goes on to explain that she loves her slime kit because it has the perfect combination which is the fun of experimenting with slime making but also not being difficult to make.
Amber wanted to keep the idea of “made by children for children” and approached Hope Church Wilderness Heights. Wilderness Heights is an impoverished community and the people face many daily challenges due to the lack of basic infrastructures and needs. The children at the Wilderness Heights project have so much fun building the DJ SlimeyGloop kits and Amber loves giving them gifts for their involvement. A portion of each SlimeyGloop kit sold will be go towards building this project and we appreciate your support.
