Colour is always so much more appealing, and when it comes to crunchy slime there is no exception. Turn your white styro-foam beads into colourful beads and have a whale of a time creating a variety of colour combinations in your slime. We tried two different paint materials – powdered paint and craft paint – and found that the powdered paint came off in the slime and coloured it, so for this tutorial we will be using ready to use Dala craft paint.
Acrylic or craft paint
Virgin styrofoam beads
Pour about a cup of foam beads into a mixing bowl and add a teaspoon of your chosen acrylic or craft paint. Mix and fold the beads over and over until the beads are completely covered, you may want to add a bit more paint for darker beads.
Lay down a piece of wax paper and pour your wet coloured beads out onto it. Using your mixing stick spread your beads out as much as possible, the less clumped they are they easier it will be to seperate them once they’re dried.
It took about 4 hours for our beads to be completely dry, however I highly recommend spreading and seperating the beads again each hour as this made a huge difference in the final result. We didn’t touch one batch at all during the four hours and this batch had a lot more clumps than the others did.
Once your beads are completely dry put a few in the palm of your hand and rub your hands together gently allowing single beads to fall through while the still clumped beads remain in your hands. Repeat this process with all your clumped beads until they are all nicely seperated.
